Northern Script

For young, nordic screenwriters

Northern Script is a Nordic Short Film Script Writing Event which aims to network
aspiring storytellers & scriptwriters across the Nordic countries.

Aim of the Northern Script

The purpose is to network ambitious screenwriters & encourage Nordic people’s cultural and linguistic identity by giving the youth a possibility to write in their own native language & identify themselves through fictional scriptwriting.

Northern Script aims to help the participants to find their own voice & develop their script writing skills. Earlier experience of screenwriting is not required. Instead personality and courage are emphasized.

Although the Northern Script drives to increase the use of Nordic languages in script writing, sufficient English language skills are still required. The qualified finalists will participate in a 5 -day long International Script Writing Camp at the Oulu International Children’s and Youth Film Festival (14th and 20th of November). The camp is held in English language.

The Northern Script has 4 key elements:

  1. Local Script Writing Workshops (April & May)
  2. Individual Script Writing (April – November)
  3. Short Film Group Script Writing (September -November)
  4. Northern Script Writing Camp (November)

It is through these four elements that we aim to create a truly Nordic platform which leads the Nordic youth to network with each other and encourage them to work together leading them towards new opportunities within the Nordic Film Industry.
